1,108 students awarded degrees at MIET convocation; Tanu Tyagi bags gold medal





Meerut: As many as 1,108 students were awarded degrees at the convocation ceremony of Meerut Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) on Thursday. The degrees were conferred to students enrolled in courses affiliated with Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow.

The ceremony was inaugurated by AKTU vice-chancellor Prof (Dr) J P Pandey in the presence of MIET chairman Vishnu Sharan, vice-chairman Puneet Agarwal, campus director Dr Sanjay Kumar Singh, placement director Akanksha Agarwal, dean Dr Sanjeev Singh and registrar Shiv Pujan Singh. The event commenced with a bagpipe band performance by students of Khalsa Inter College, Thapar Nagar, Meerut.

Presenting the annual report, campus director Dr Sanjay Kumar Singh highlighted the institute’s academic and research progress over the past year. Degrees were awarded to 718 BTech, 68 BPharma, 176 MBA, 113 MCA, 12 MTech and 21 MPharma students.

Tanu Tyagi secured the first position in MTech (CSE) at the university level and was awarded the gold medal by the vice-chancellor, while Pragya Jain, who secured second position, received the silver medal. Several students were also recognised for securing positions in the university’s top-10 merit list, including Tanvi Bansal (BTech Computer Science), Deepak Sharma (Electrical Engineering), Monika Kansal (MBA), Prashasti and Vikshika (Biotechnology), and Nandini Agarwal (MCA).

In the innovation category, Diakshant and Manohar were honoured with the best startup award in technology, Mohit was recognised in the sustainability category, and Sarthak Sisodia received the award in the accessibility category.

Addressing the gathering, Prof Pandey urged students to focus on self-development, decision-making skills and technical competence. Referring to the significance of teachers in shaping lives, he underlined the importance of mentorship. He also spoke about the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence, stating that AI has entered its third phase, where systems are capable of self-upgradation, and stressed the need for timely adoption of emerging technologies.

On the occasion, the vice-chancellor also inaugurated a Centre of Excellence in VLSI Design and Technology and a Centre for Drone Technology at the institute. The convocation was followed by an industry-academia dialogue, where discussions were held on industry challenges and possible solutions. Representatives from Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Indian Industries Association, Meerut Management Association, and sectors including manufacturing, electronics, sports goods, infrastructure, heavy vehicles and banking participated in the interaction.

Directors and principals from other institutions, including Inderprastha Engineering College, Ghaziabad, and Meerut Institute of Technology, were also present at the event.
