Tree Plantation and Awareness Rally Mark World Environment Day at Glocal University

Saharanpur, June 5, 2025: Glocal University celebrated World Environment Day with great enthusiasm, organizing a series of awareness activities and a large-scale tree plantation drive within the campus. The event aimed to spread awareness about environmental conservation and the harmful effects of plastic pollution, in line with this year’s global theme, “Ending Global Plastic Pollution.”

The celebration was held under the guidance of Additional Pro-Chancellor Nizamuddin, with inspiration from Vice Chancellor Prof. H.S. Singh and support from Registrar Prof. Shivani Tiwari. The program was jointly coordinated by Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Director of IQAC; Prof. Shobha Tripathi, Dean of Students’ Welfare; Dr. Sanjeev Nandal, NSS Programme Officer; and the Institution Innovation Council.

The event commenced with the ceremonial garlanding of a portrait of Goddess Saraswati. In his welcome address, Prof. Sanjay Kumar emphasized the urgency of addressing plastic pollution, terming it a critical global issue.

Speaking on the occasion, Additional Pro-Chancellor Nizamuddin described plastic as “slow poison” and stressed the need for collective awareness and responsible action. Vice Chancellor Prof. H.S. Singh highlighted how plastic not only pollutes land, water, and air but also enters the human body, disrupting biological systems.

Guest of Honour, Village Head of Raipur Sadauli, Rao Abdul Qadir, advocated for the return to cloth bags to reduce dependency on plastic. Dean Dr. Mohammad Yusuf spoke about the benefits and methods of plastic recycling. Students Saloni Dhiman, Jessica Gupta, and Isha Pal also shared their perspectives on the theme.

Following the speeches, a peaceful rally was organized by students to raise awareness against plastic pollution. The event concluded with a tree plantation drive across the campus, reinforcing the university’s commitment to a greener future.

The program was anchored by Assistant Professor Fatima Parveen Aqeel, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Shobha Tripathi. The event saw participation from all heads of departments, faculty members including Dr. Dilip, Dr. Asgar Ali, Shashank, and Srishti, as well as a large number of students.
