Grand Celebration of 11th International Yoga Day at Venkateshwara University, Yoga Acharyas Honoured


Meerut: Under the joint aegis of Venkateshwara University and VGI Meerut, a grand “Mega Yoga Camp and Felicitation Ceremony – 2025” was organised on the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day, based on the theme “One Earth, One Health.” The event, held at the university’s Yoga Campus, witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, and students.

The event was inaugurated by Founder President Sudhir Giri, Chief Guest MLC and Teacher Representative Dr. Hari Singh Dhillon, Pro-Chancellor Dr. Rajeev Tyagi, and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Krishna Kant Dave, who lit the ceremonial lamp before the idol of Goddess Saraswati.

In his address, Dr. Hari Singh Dhillon emphasised that yoga is an integral part of India's ancient heritage. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking yoga to the global stage and earning it international recognition. "Yoga has regained its lost glory, and its practice contributes not only to individual well-being but also to national development," he said.

Founder President Sudhir Giri stated that India, being the youngest nation demographically, is now on the path to reclaim its position as Vishwaguru (world leader) through the power of yoga, spirituality, and youth energy. Pro-Chancellor Dr. Rajeev Tyagi highlighted that the month-long “Yoga Mahotsav” concluded with the felicitation of eminent yoga gurus and instructors with shawls and mementoes.

Renowned yoga trainer Acharya Krishna Kumar, who conducted the yoga sessions, guided participants through various asanas including Surya Namaskar, Vajrasana, Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Bhadrasana, Trikonasana, Vakrasana, Mandukasana, and Janu Sirsasana, followed by pranayama techniques. He elaborated on their benefits such as enhanced concentration, improved respiratory and digestive systems, better sleep, hormonal balance, stress relief, and physical endurance.

The yoga day theme for this year, as per Government of Uttar Pradesh directives, was “Yoga Unplugged – Youth-Led Yoga for Wellness.” Students from NSS Unit 1 & 2 and the Ayurveda College had been rigorously practising for the event for the past two weeks.

More than 400 participants including deans, faculty members, staff, and students enthusiastically took part in the event. Yoga instructors and practitioners were honoured with traditional pagris, patkas, and mementoes for their contributions.

Notable attendees included Registrar Dr. Piyush Pandey, Dr. Aina Eric Brown, Devpratap Singh, Dr. L.S. Rawat, Dr. S.N. Sahu, Dr. Manjari Rana, Dr. Anusha Karnwal, Dr. Akhil Kumar, Dr. T.P. Singh, Dr. Yogeshwar Sharma, Dr. Anil Kumar Jaiswal, Dr. Sriram Gupta, S.S. Baghel, Sanjeev Rai, Ankita Srivastava, K.P. Singh, Dr. Pratap Singh (Director, Meerut Campus), and media coordinator Vishwas Rana, among others.

The event concluded with a collective pledge to adopt yoga as a daily practice and contribute to a healthier and harmonious India.
