International Yoga Day Celebrated at Glocal University with Enthusiastic Participation

Saharanpur – Glocal University observed International Yoga Day with great fervor under the guidance of Additional Pro-Chancellor Mr. Syed Nizamuddin, the inspiration of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Hriday Shankar Singh, and the motivation of Registrar Prof. Shivani Tiwari. The event was coordinated by Prof. Shobha Tripathi, Dean Student Welfare and Program Officer of the National Service Scheme (NSS), with the yoga session led by Mr. Girish Kumar, Yoga Instructor from Glocal Ayurvedic College.

In alignment with the Government of Uttar Pradesh’s theme for 2024, "Yoga Unplugged – Youth-led Yoga for Wellness", students from NSS Units 1 and 2 and Ayurveda College had been preparing for the event with dedicated practice sessions over the past week.

During the event, Mr. Kumar, assisted by Ayurveda students Vaibhav and Diviksha, guided participants through a series of asanas including Surya Namaskar, Vajrasana, Shashankasana, Bhadrasana, Janu Sirsasana, Chakki Asana, Mandukasana, Vrikshasana, Tadasana, Trikonasana, Vakrasana, followed by Pranayama. He also explained the physical and mental benefits of each posture — such as improved concentration, stronger respiratory system, regulated blood pressure, reduced stress, muscle and joint strength, enhanced immunity, hormonal balance, better digestion, improved sleep quality, and relief from issues like back pain and cervical strain.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Hriday Shankar Singh highlighted the importance of yoga in modern life: “Yoga not only promotes physical health but also helps in reducing mental stress and anxiety. It offers a natural alternative to many medicines with side effects.”

The event saw the presence of several dignitaries including Additional Pro-Chancellor Mr. Syed Nizamuddin, Pro Vice-Chancellor (AYUSH) Prof. John Finbey, Principal of Unani College Dr. Rehan, Program Officer Dr. Sanjeev Nandal, all Deans, Student Welfare Member Ms. Fatima Parveen Aqeel, Assistant Transport Manager Mr. Mohammad Majid Ahmed, Mr. Joginder, faculty members, NSS volunteers, and students of Ayurvedic College.

A total of around 400 participants took part in the yoga session, marking a strong commitment towards health, wellness, and holistic living.
