CCSU Holds Grand 38th Convocation; 199 Medals Awarded to Meritorious Students

Governor Anandiben Patel says education must shape character, not just confer degrees; 66,971 degrees integrated with DigiLocker

Meerut: Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU) celebrated its 38th Convocation Ceremony with grandeur on Wednesday at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Auditorium, where 199 medals were conferred upon meritorious students from various faculties. The ceremony was presided over by Uttar Pradesh Governor and Chancellor of the University, Anandiben Patel, in the presence of distinguished dignitaries, academicians and graduating students.

On the occasion, the Governor virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several university infrastructure projects. She also integrated 66,971 degrees with DigiLocker, enabling graduates to access their academic credentials digitally.

Recognising outstanding social initiatives, the Governor honoured the district and police administrations of Bulandshahr, Hapur and Ghaziabad with commendation certificates for their contribution to the HPV vaccination campaign aimed at preventing cervical cancer among girls. Five Anganwadi workers were presented Anganwadi kits, while books were distributed to primary school teachers.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Anandiben Patel congratulated the medal winners and said that education is not merely about acquiring knowledge or earning a degree, but about building character, values and a sense of responsibility towards society. She urged students to draw inspiration from the ideals of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.

Highlighting the achievements of women, the Governor noted that more than 75 per cent of the medals this year were won by female students, reflecting their dedication and academic excellence. She called for an end to gender discrimination and stressed that every student's success is built on the support of parents and teachers.

The Governor also praised CCSU's initiatives, including adopting 50 villages, participation in the TB-Free India campaign, NAAC A+ accreditation, improved national and international rankings, research promotion and modern academic infrastructure. She encouraged universities to introduce employment-oriented programmes aligned with emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, animation, gaming, space science, medical tourism and innovation.

Chief Guest Dr Himanshu Shukla, Director General of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Hyderabad, said that the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 could only be realised through technology, research, innovation and skill development. He urged graduates to continuously upgrade their knowledge and actively contribute to scientific and technological advancement.

Minister of State for Higher Education Rajni Tiwari, the Guest of Honour, said a degree represents not just academic achievement but also a commitment to social responsibility. She emphasised the importance of the National Education Policy, digital economy, artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, research and innovation in shaping India's future while preserving Indian culture and environmental values.

The university conferred the Honorary Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.) upon Rasilaben Kanjibhai Dungariya for her exceptional contribution to promoting Kutch's traditional handicrafts globally, empowering rural women and preserving India's folk art and handicraft heritage.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sangeeta Shukla highlighted the university's achievements in academics, research and outreach, and outlined its future vision. She announced that the Chancellor's Gold Medal 2026 was awarded to Kajal, an M.A. (Drawing & Painting) student, while the Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal was presented to Mukta Bhardwaj, an LL.M. student. The Chaudhary Charan Singh Memorial Talent Awards, sponsored by Kisan Trust, New Delhi, were presented to Varnika Sharma and Ruchi Kumari for securing first and second positions, respectively, in B.Sc. Agriculture.

The ceremony was attended by MLA Ghulam Mohammad, MLC Shrichand Sharma, District Magistrate Dr V.K. Singh, Registrar Prof. Bhupendra Singh, members of the Executive Council, deans, faculty members, students, parents and other distinguished guests, marking another significant milestone in the university's academic journey.
