XR and AI-powered EdTech Startup Bags First Prize in Women-Led Startup Category
Meerut: Students of Meerut Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) have brought laurels to the institute by winning the First Prize in the Women-Led Startup category at the 24th Convocation of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow. The award was presented to Irtiqa Rehman Ansari and Yash Tomar, founders of WeXR Immersive Pvt. Ltd., in recognition of their innovation-driven startup in the field of immersive education technology.
The awards were presented during the convocation ceremony by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel in the presence of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) Chairman Arvind Singh Sahney, Technical Education Minister Ashish Patel, Principal Secretary, Technical Education, Dr M.K. Shanmuga Sundaram, and AKTU Vice-Chancellor Prof. J.P. Pandey. This year, AKTU honoured five outstanding startups from across Uttar Pradesh under different categories for their contributions to innovation and entrepreneurship.
Founded by Yash Tomar and Co-founder Irtiqa Rehman Ansari, WeXR Immersive Pvt. Ltd. is an XR (Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality) and Artificial Intelligence-based EdTech startup focused on transforming conventional education into immersive, hands-on learning experiences. The startup, which has been under development for the past two years, was formally incorporated in August 2025.
Its flagship platform, WeXR NEXA Virtual Labs, enables students to perform practical experiments in AI-assisted virtual laboratories, making quality practical education accessible to institutions with limited laboratory infrastructure. The company has also developed an immersive Virtual Reality simulation for water conservation awareness for the Ghaziabad Jal Nigam, besides creating fire safety and emergency evacuation training simulations for educational and institutional use. The founders aim to make education and skill development more accessible, engaging and cost-effective through cutting-edge immersive technologies.
Congratulating the award winners, MIET Chairman Vishnu Sharan, Vice Chairman Gaurav Agrawal, Barkha Agrawal, Campus Director Dr Sanjay Kumar Singh, and MIET Incubation Forum CEO Rehan Ahmad said the achievement reflects the institute's strong focus on innovation, research and entrepreneurship. They expressed confidence that MIET students would continue to develop technology-driven solutions capable of creating meaningful social and industrial impact.
