Meerut: MIET Public School, located on Mawana Road, witnessed a grand inauguration of the four-day CBSE Zone-1 Shooting Championship on Friday. The opening ceremony was graced by Chairman Vishnu Sharan, Principal Rupali Sehgal, Vice Principal Ekta Saxena, CBSE-appointed observer Naresh Kumar, Sports Secretary Vijit Chaudhary, and Navneet Chadha, who jointly lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the commencement of the event.

The event began with a vibrant march past by students representing all school houses, followed by cultural performances including a powerful rendition of the ‘Shiv Tandav’ and a spirited band performance, setting an energetic tone for the competition.

286 Participants Display Sharpshooting Skills

A total of 286 participants competed on the first day across Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19 age categories in the 10-meter air rifle and air pistol events for both boys and girls.

Top Scores of the Day:

  • Air Rifle: Aditya Kumar from Tulas International School, Dehradun, scored 393 out of 400. Arav Saini from Delhi Public School, Saharanpur, scored 388, while Vardan from DPS Noida secured 386.

  • Air Pistol: Virdhika Tyagi from Asha Modern School, Saharanpur, scored 383, Aadya Singh from BML Munjal Green Medius Public School, Haridwar, scored 375, and Karl from Deep Memorial Public School, Ghaziabad, scored 370.

In accordance with international shooting standards, each shooter was given 40 shots to be fired within 50 minutes. Each shot carried a maximum score of 10, making the total possible score 400.

Strong Regional Participation and Advanced Facilities

The opening day saw participation from 72 schools across 22 districts, including Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Rudrapur, Noida, Agra, Dehradun, Bareilly, Saharanpur, Ghaziabad, Nainital, and Etah, among others.

According to Sports Secretary Vijit Chaudhary, the competition is being held for Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19 age groups in both air rifle and air pistol categories. Participants from 252 schools across 13 districts of Uttarakhand (Dehradun Region) and 26 districts of Western Uttar Pradesh (Noida Region) are expected to compete. Over 1,200 registrations have been received via the official CBSE platform. Winners will qualify for the CBSE National Shooting Championship.

CBSE observer Naresh Kumar highlighted that, while similar championships are being held across various zones in the country, the Meerut venue has recorded the highest number of registrations and participants.

World-Class Shooting Range and Transparent Scoring

The school has set up two state-of-the-art shooting ranges with 30 target points. A fully digital Swiss scoring system has been deployed to ensure transparent and automated score processing, maintaining the integrity and fairness of the competition.


Key individuals supporting the event include officials Jony Chaudhary, Suraj, Abhinav, shooting coach Akash, coordinators Swati Yadav, Sumit, Gaurav, Kiran, Rekha, Vishal, Rohit Patel, and Ajay Chaudhary.

The championship continues to draw attention for its scale, competitiveness, and top-tier infrastructure—cementing MIET Public School’s place as a premier venue for scholastic sports in the region
