Special event marks Vikram Sarabhai Jayanti, National Space Day, and National Remote Sensing Day

Meerut: The Meerut Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) hosted a one-day awareness seminar on “Space Exploration and Applications” to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, along with National Space Day and National Remote Sensing Day. The event began with a Saraswati Vandana, followed by a welcome address by MIET Director Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh.

Organised by MIET’s SatLab and ACIC in collaboration with the Indian Space Industry Exhibitor Association (ISIE), Ghaziabad, and the Centre for Space Science and Technology (CSST) at IIT Roorkee, the seminar brought together eminent space scientists and academicians.

Dr. Singh highlighted Dr. Sarabhai’s visionary leadership in propelling India to scientific heights and spoke about SatLab MIET’s role in providing hands-on experience in satellite technology, remote sensing, and space applications to students.

Chief guest Prof. Dr. Sanjay H. Upadhyay, Head, CSST, IIT Roorkee, addressed topics such as space sustainability, debris management, and human adaptation in space, while underlining opportunities at ISRO and IIT Roorkee.

In the technical sessions, Dr. Alok Mathur, former Senior Scientist, SAC-ISRO, discussed applications of satellite remote sensing in agriculture, meteorology, oceanography, and disaster management, with insights from the recent August 5, 2025 natural disaster and the NASA-ISRO SAR (NISAR) mission.
