Judiciary: The True Guardian of the Constitution, Says Justice P.K. Giri
Dialogue and Felicitation Ceremony held at Shri Venkateshwara University
Meerut: Shri Venkateshwara University, on the National Highway Bypass campus, hosted a dialogue and felicitation ceremony on the theme “Judiciary: The Guardian of the Constitution.” The event was marked by the presence of eminent legal minds, senior officials, and faculty members.
Delivering the keynote address, Justice P.K. Giri of the Allahabad High Court underlined the pivotal role of the judiciary in safeguarding citizens’ fundamental rights and ensuring a balanced distribution of power between the government institutions. “The judiciary is not just the custodian of the Constitution but also a protector of marginalized communities and a torchbearer of a fearless, tyranny-free democracy,” Justice Giri remarked. He further highlighted that the establishment of fast-track courts, women’s courts, and juvenile courts has enhanced access to speedy justice in cases of heinous crimes.
Sudhir Giri, Founder-Chairman of the Venkateshwara Group, emphasized that the four pillars of democracy—legislature, executive, media, and judiciary—are complementary to one another. “Without any one of them, neither democracy nor the rights of the last person in the queue can be protected,” he said.
Amroha Superintendent of Police, IPS Amit Kumar Anand, echoed similar views, stressing the mutual dependence of all four pillars to uphold a strong and just democratic system. Pro-Chancellor Dr. Rajeev Tyagi added that a mature and stable democracy cannot be imagined without the judiciary playing its central role.
The ceremony commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ritual before the idol of Goddess Saraswati by Justice P.K. Giri, Pro-Chancellor Dr. Rajeev Tyagi, IPS Amit Kumar Anand, and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Krishna Kant Dave. Justice Giri was later felicitated with a bouquet, ceremonial scarf, turban, and an Ashoka emblem.
The event witnessed the participation of Law Dean Dr. Rajvardhan Singh, Group Advisor Dr. R.S. Sharma, Dr. Neetu Panwar, Dr. Shilpa Raina, Dr. Suman Kumari, Dr. Mohit Sharma, Dr. Shyamlal, Dr. Yogeshwar Sharma, Suman Meena, Ashok Kumar, S.S.
