National Seminar on International Anti-Corruption Day at Venkateshwara University, Experts Term Corruption a “Global Curse and the Gravest Threat to Democracy”

Meerut. On the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day, Shree Venkateshwara University/Institutions, located on the National Highway Bypass, organised a one-day National Seminar and Anti-Corruption Oath Ceremony on the theme “Corruption: A Global Curse and a Threat to Democracy.” Eminent speakers from across the country unanimously described corruption as the most destructive challenge before any democratic system.

The event commenced in the A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Auditorium with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Pro-Chancellor Dr. Rajeev Tyagi, Senior Advocate Dr. Shrigopal Narson, Registrar Prof. Piyush Kumar Pandey, and Dr. Rajesh Singh.

Addressing the gathering, Shree Sudhir Giri, Founder Chairman of Venkateshwara Group, remarked that corruption acts like a termite that erodes not only individuals, families, institutions, and societies but also threatens the very foundation of a healthy and stable democracy. He added that nations across the world that failed to curb corruption are today facing severe decline and instability.

Delivering the keynote address, Pro-Chancellor Dr. Rajeev Tyagi highlighted that the appointment of Lokpals in various states, stringent anti-corruption laws, and the implementation of the Right to Information Act (RTI) have significantly strengthened India’s fight against corruption over the past decade—resulting in remarkable improvements in the nation’s GDP growth. He emphasised that complete eradication of corruption requires collective responsibility, urging every citizen to uphold integrity and transparency.

Senior Advocate Dr. Shrigopal Narson, Registrar Prof. Piyush Kumar Pandey, and Dr. Neetu Panwar also addressed the seminar, stressing the need for strict compliance with ethical practices and citizen-driven vigilance to safeguard democratic values.

During the ceremony, thousands of students and staff members took the “Anti-Corruption Pledge,” committing themselves to honesty, transparency, and national development.

The event saw the gracious presence of Dean Academics Dr. Rajesh Singh, Dr. Suman Kumari, Dr. Aarti Gupta, Dr. Rajvardhan, Dr. Jaiveer Singh, S.S. Baghel, Dr. Shriram Gupta, Dr. Pratap (Meerut Campus), and Media Incharge Vishwas Rana, among others.
