MIET Students Shine at India AI Impact Buildathon 2026

Meerut: Students of Meerut Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) have once again brought laurels to the institution by securing a notable achievement at the national level. A team comprising Vardan Singh, Shivam Agarwal, Vansh Tomar and Yash Verma—third-year B.Tech (CSE – AI & ML) students—under the team name “Sentient Mavericks,” secured Third Position in the Student Category at the India AI Impact Buildathon 2026.

The prestigious national hackathon was organized under the Government of India’s IndiaAI Mission and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with HCL and GUVI. The event was a key segment of the India AI Impact Summit, recognized as the first major global Artificial Intelligence conference hosted in the Global South.

The competition witnessed participation from over 40,000 entrants nationwide during the initial online round. From this massive pool, only the top 2 percent—approximately 850 participants forming 200 outstanding teams across student and professional categories—were selected for the Grand Finale.

The MIET team developed an innovative real-time security solution titled AI Call Shield.” The application is designed to protect users from emerging cyber threats such as deepfake audio and AI-based voice cloning. In recent times, cybercriminals have increasingly used synthetic voices to impersonate trusted individuals or officials to fraudulently obtain OTPs, UPI PINs and other sensitive information.

The application functions as a protective layer during live phone calls. It analyzes voice characteristics in real time, identifying indicators of machine-generated speech such as unnatural pitch stability, robotic tonal patterns and “perfect silence.” Additionally, the system monitors coercive or manipulative language patterns across multiple regional languages. Importantly, the entire process ensures user privacy by automatically masking sensitive personal information, including account details.

By securing Third Place in the Student Category, the team was awarded a cash prize of ₹40,000.

On this occasion, MIET Chairman Vishnu Sharan, Vice Chairmen Puneet Agarwal and Gaurav Agarwal, Campus Director Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Dean Academics Dr. Sanjeev Singh, Head of Department Dr. Rambeer Singh and Media Manager Ajay Chaudhary congratulated the team for their outstanding accomplishment.
