- AI Is the Need of the Hour, Says Prof. J.P. Pandey
Meerut: The MIET campus witnessed a grand convocation ceremony on Saturday, where degrees were conferred upon 1,156 students affiliated with Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow. The event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, jointly conducted by AKTU Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) J.P. Pandey, Joint Director of Technical Education (West Zone) Mohammad Sabir, Joint Director of Regional Higher Education Dr. Monika Singh, MIET Chairman Vishnu Sharan, Vice Chairman Puneet Agarwal, Campus Director Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Aakansha Agarwal, and Registrar Shivpujan Singh.
The ceremony opened on a vibrant note with a bagpipe performance by students of Khalsa Inter College, Thapar Nagar, Meerut. On this occasion, Chairman Vishnu Sharan presented a 3D model of the Ram Temple, crafted by students in the AICTE Idea Lab, to the Vice Chancellor.
Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh presented the institution's annual progress report, followed by the degree distribution. A total of 791 B.Tech, 73 B.Pharm, 166 MBA, 97 MCA, 8 M.Tech, and 21 M.Pharm graduates were conferred degrees. Top three performers from each course were honoured with Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals.
Among the awardees, Jhalak Jain (B.Tech, Computer Science – Data Science) received the Chancellor's Award and Gold Medal for securing the highest marks in the university. Nikita Singh (Electronics and Communication Engineering) was awarded a Gold Medal for topping the university, while Shiva Chaudhary (M.Tech, Computer Science) bagged the Silver Medal for securing third position. Harsh Chauhan, a B.Tech student, was honoured with the Startup Innovation Award for his remarkable contributions in the field of innovation.
In his keynote address, Prof. Pandey emphasized the importance of self-growth, decision-making skills, and technological competence. Quoting the first verse of the Bhagavad Gita, he encouraged students to face life’s challenges with courage and conviction. He highlighted that Artificial Intelligence has now entered a third phase of development where it can autonomously upgrade itself. “If we fail to adopt this evolving technology in time, it has the potential to replace human roles in the future,” he cautioned.
Following the convocation, an Industry-Academia Interaction session was held to discuss current industrial challenges and possible solutions. Notable participants included Anup Kumar Mishra, Head of ITC Plant, Saharanpur, and office-bearers from the Meerut Management Association and Indian Industries Association.
