Hands-on training in animal cell culture techniques sparks research interest among students and professionals
Meerut — The Department of Biotechnology at Meerut Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), supported by DST-FIST and ACIC MIET Foundation, successfully conducted a five-day hands-on workshop on Cell Culture Techniques from June 25 to 29, 2025. The workshop aimed to provide in-depth practical training and theoretical understanding in animal cell culture — a critical area in modern biotechnology. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Amit Kumar Balyan, Head of Animal Biotechnology at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology (SVPUAT), who emphasized the growing importance and research potential of cell culture in biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences.
Throughout the five days, participants received structured training on various aspects of animal cell culture, including principles of cell culture, lab setup and safety protocols, media preparation, cell isolation, maintenance, and cytotoxicity assays. Emphasis was placed on key hands-on techniques such as cell passaging, counting, and cryopreservation, which significantly boosted participants’ technical proficiency and confidence.
Expert faculty members led live demonstrations and provided personalized guidance, ensuring thorough understanding of concepts and procedures. A dedicated assessment session using multiple-choice questions helped evaluate participants' learning outcomes. Feedback collected from attendees will inform future improvements.
During the valedictory function, certificates were awarded to all participants, trainers, and organizers. Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director of MIET, commended the participants and encouraged them to explore further research opportunities in cell culture and biotechnology. He highlighted that such workshops bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world applications, especially in cutting-edge biosciences.
Industry and academic participants alike praised the initiative. Shrankhla Manik, an industry participant, remarked, “It was an incredible opportunity. The hands-on practice and scientific knowledge will definitely support my career goals.”
Sandhya Singh, a PhD scholar from Central University of South Bihar, added, “I highly recommend this training. It provided valuable tools for my research work.”
Shwetanjali Jaiswal, another industry professional, said, “The trainers were exceptionally well-prepared and explained complex topics with clarity. I now feel much more confident in my cell culture skills.”
The workshop successfully ignited interest among budding researchers and professionals, reinforcing MIET’s commitment to advancing biotechnological education and fostering a culture of innovation.
