Meerut Institute of Technology to host annual fest ‘Mridang-2026’ from February 23
Star attraction: Live performance by Haryanvi-Bollywood playback singer Shiva Choudhary on February 24
Meerut: The Meerut Institute of Technology (MIT), located on Partapur Bypass, will organise its annual cultural extravaganza, Mridang-2026, on February 23 and 24. The two-day youth festival promises a vibrant blend of cultural diversity, creative expression and entertainment.
Addressing a press conference, event coordinator Dr Gaurav Sharma said the festival aims to provide students with a dynamic platform to showcase their talent while celebrating India’s rich cultural heritage. The event will feature cultural presentations from various states, programmes highlighting women empowerment, and exhibitions showcasing traditional cuisines and folk performances.
The first day, February 23, will witness a series of competitions and performances including solo dance, musical singing, Battle of Bands, rap battle, theme-based fashion show and a DJ night. Students from different streams are expected to participate enthusiastically in the competitive and non-competitive segments.
As part of the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, MIT will also host Toycathon-2026, where students will design and develop toys inspired by Indian culture, ancient scriptures and traditional games. The initiative aims to promote the indigenous toy industry and revive traditional Indian games that have faded over time.
On the second day, February 24, events such as street plays, group dance competitions and a prize distribution ceremony will be held. The highlight of the festival will be a live performance by popular Haryanvi and Bollywood playback singer Shiva Choudhary.
Known for her energetic stage presence and unique fusion of traditional Haryanvi folk and contemporary music, Choudhary will perform her hit numbers including Jale 1, Jale 2, Tag Awara Ke, Kale Kagaz, Sarpanch and the widely popular track Financer.
MIT spokesperson Ajay Choudhary, along with faculty members PK Gautam, Reetima and Sonal, and student coordinators Khushi, Saaransh, Kush, Prateek, Gayatri, Alisha and Ritik, were present at the press briefing.
Through Mridang-2026, MIT seeks to offer students an immersive experience that combines culture, innovation and entertainment on a grand scale.
