MIT Meerut Marks National Sports Day with High Energy and Sportsmanship

Meerut, August 30, 2025

The campus of Meerut Institute of Technology (MIT) was buzzing with excitement on August 29 as students and faculty came together to celebrate National Sports Day, held in honor of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand — the “Wizard of Hockey.”

What started with a heartfelt tribute to the sporting icon quickly turned into a day packed with action. From volleyball and basketball to yoga, chess, and carrom, the institute witnessed over 500 students showcasing their energy, talent, and team spirit.

“Sports aren’t just about winning medals, they’re about discipline, teamwork, and leadership,” said Dr. K.L.A. Khan, Director of MIT, as he officially inaugurated the event. His inspiring words set the stage for the competitions that followed.

In volleyball, the B.Tech team spiked their way to victory, while MIT (PC) settled for second place. On the basketball court, competition was fierce with eight teams battling it out. Team A – MIT (PC) grabbed the top spot, while B.Com finished as runner-up.

Principal Dr. Himanshu Sharma reminded students to strike a balance between academics and physical fitness. “Sports bring out the best in you – resilience, focus, and the ability to work with others,” he said, applauding both the participants and organizers.

Adding to the occasion were senior faculty members including Dr. Sanjay Mathur, Dr. Ankur Goel, Sonal Ahlawat, Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singh, Himani Mishra, Parvesh Chaudhary, Navneet Tomar, and Dr. Anish Kaushik, whose presence boosted the morale of students.

At the closing ceremony, Dr. Neeraj Kant Sharma, Principal of Pharmacy, urged students to keep sports a part of their daily lives. “In the middle of a busy academic life, sports are what keep you fit, sharp, and balanced,” he said, motivating students to carry the spirit of sportsmanship forward.

The celebration wrapped up with a prize distribution ceremony, with winners and participants being honored for their dedication. More than just medals and trophies, the day created a strong sense of unity, joy, and healthy competition on campus — a true reflection of what National Sports Day stands for.
