Students take 'One Plant, One Pledge' campaign at Meerut school

Meerut: Betiyan Foundation organised a tree plantation drive under its 'Jeevan Dhara Paryavaran Mission' as part of the Van Mahotsav Maha Abhiyan at PGM International School, Garh Road, on Friday. The campaign, themed "One Plant, One Pledge – A Strong Step Towards a Greener Future," aimed to promote environmental awareness and encourage sustainable practices among students.

Students, teachers and members of the foundation planted several shade-giving and eco-friendly saplings across the school campus. The initiative sought not only to increase green cover but also to sensitise children to the importance of trees and their long-term care.

Babita Kataria, Environment Project Head of Betiyan Foundation, urged citizens, parents and youth to actively participate in plantation drives and take responsibility for protecting the saplings. She said environmental conservation requires collective public participation.

Foundation president Anju Pandey highlighted the need to eliminate single-use plastic and encouraged students to adopt reusable cloth bags in their daily lives. She said replacing plastic with sustainable alternatives is essential for building a cleaner and greener India.

During the programme, Ranjana distributed cloth bags to students and encouraged them to choose eco-friendly alternatives over single-use plastic, reinforcing the message of environmental responsibility.

School Principal Anubha Goyal appreciated the initiative, saying such programmes help instil social and environmental responsibility among students. She expressed the school's willingness to host similar awareness campaigns in the future.

The event was supported by Kusum Sharma, Kusum Mittal, Amita Arora and Neera Gupta, along with teachers and volunteers of the foundation.
