Experts Emphasize: “Cancer is Deadly but Not Incurable” — Thousands of Students Take a Pledge for Awareness

Meerut: On the occasion of National Cancer Awareness Day 2025, Shri Venkateshwara University and its constituent institutions — School of Nursing, Paramedical, and Pharmacy — jointly organized a National Seminar and Cancer Awareness Rally on the theme “Cancer is Deadly but Not Incurable.”

The event began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony before the idol of Goddess Saraswati at Dr. C.V. Raman Auditorium. The inauguration was led by Pro-Chancellor Dr. Rajeev Tyagi, Chief Medical Superintendent Prof. (Dr.) Suresh G. Mehta, Registrar Dr. Piyush Kumar Pandey, Dean Dr. Anna Eric Brown, Dr. Omprakash Gausai, and Dr. Ashwin Saxena, who also flagged off the awareness rally.

Addressing the seminar, Dr. Rajeev Tyagi highlighted that cancer remains one of the most life-threatening diseases globally. However, early detection and timely treatment can significantly increase survival rates. He further stressed that mental strength, yoga, naturopathy, and a balanced lifestyle play an equally vital role in combating the disease alongside medical intervention.

Prof. (Dr.) Suresh G. Mehta, Chief Medical Superintendent at VIMS Multispeciality Hospital, emphasized that if cancer is diagnosed in its first or second stage, modern medical advancements make complete recovery possible.

Founder Chairman of the Venkateshwara Group, Shri Sudhir Giri, in his address, expressed concern over the growing number of cancer cases, stating that millions lose their lives to this disease each year. He urged every individual to contribute towards spreading awareness and promoting preventive health measures.

Following the seminar, thousands of students participated in a massive awareness rally across the university campus, holding placards and raising slogans against cancer. The event concluded with a collective pledge by students and faculty to work towards creating a cancer-aware society.

The program witnessed the presence of Dr. Rajesh Singh, Dr. Manish Sharma, Dr. Manjari Rana, Anusha Karnwal, Juhi, Anuj Sharma, Harpreet Kaur, Sumandeep, Indu Singh, Tahseer, Shoaib, Zuber, Alisha, Bobby Rawat, Smita, Sanjeev Kumar, and Dr. Pratap Singh (Meerut Campus), along with Media In-charge Vishwas Rana and other dignitaries.

The event successfully underscored the message that while cancer is a formidable enemy, awareness, early diagnosis, and collective willpower can turn the tide in the fight against this deadly disease.
